You know it's about time to start potty training when your 16 month old goes to the diaper basket, removes a diaper and the changing towel, walks them over to you,and goes to get up on the couch to be changed after making poopie.
She really needs a potty but she isn't talking with intelligible words yet. I told L.J. that I am going to start sitting her on the potty three times a day: morning after waking up, afternoon before nap time, and evening before bath time. I don't know if it will work but I have to start somewhere.

No, it's passed time. She is smarter than you give her credit. She may not be able to speak a complete sentence, but if taught, she can say potty. At 16 months, you should have started sometime ago. If you recall, I suggested you buy her a potty seat to set on the regular seat and place her on the seat throughout the day. Good luck. Your grand dad said "when your baby comes to you with a clean diaper, wash cloth and lie down for you to change her, you should be ashamed". That action tells you that she could have been potty trained a long, long time ago. Still love you.
True that! True that!
Dayna,
Speaking as a urogynecologist your daughter is not ready to be "potty trained". Despite what you may be told by others, she does not have persistent and consistent control over the neurological function of her bladder at this point. Yes, she knows that she's wet, and may not like it. However, she does not have the ability to control the involuntary neurologic function of her parasympathetic nervous system. I see many women in my practice with adult bladder dysfunction that started as a child. Probably from forced attempts of training when they were not able to. It is ok to gently try to push Nycee in this direction, but don't force it yet. Definitely avoid punishing her for wetting at this time.
